Eight Mass. high school seniors will win Thoreau scholarships. How you can apply – Wicked Local
The Henry David Thoreau Foundation is offering scholarships worth up to $26,000 over four years to Massachusetts high school seniors who plan to major or minor in an environmentally related field in college, according to a community announcement.
The Foundation will award scholarships to eight students. Recipients can enroll in any college or university worldwide.
Scholars are encouraged to participate in internships or study abroad programs to enhance their understanding of environmental issues, according to the announcement. The Foundation also assists scholarship winners by identifying internships, offering stipends and providing networking opportunities.
Past scholars have studied biology, epidemiology, oceanography, international affairs and environmental law, according to the announcement. After completing their undergraduate degrees, they become members of The Thoreau Society.
The Foundation’s mission is to foster environmental leadership. A key indicator of its success is the support past scholarship winners provide to current recipients.
To apply for a Henry David Thoreau Scholarship, students must submit their applications by Feb. 1. More information is available at thoreauscholar.org.
