EJI has announced 37 winners of the 2025 Montgomery Public Schools Legacy Scholarship. The scholarship, which awards $10,000 to each recipient, is awarded to graduating seniors from each of the eight Montgomery public high schools. Two to seven winners were selected from each high school, with the number of available scholarships at a given school being determined by the size of the graduating class. This year’s legacy scholar recipients were selected based on essays that reflect on the students’ experience visiting EJI’s Freedom Monument Sculpture Park or their efforts at school.
The Legacy Scholarship program was created to support students who have demonstrated a commitment to their communities. This is the third year of the program. Since the program began, EJI has awarded 90 scholarships of $10,000 each to graduating seniors in Montgomery.
“We are excited to support these extraordinary young people who have distinguished themselves at their schools. Area students need to be supported, encouraged, and affirmed when they work hard and strive to achieve greatness. Providing scholarships to MPS students and their families has been a joyous and uplifting experience for us and we look forward to continuing our work with Montgomery high school students,” said EJI director Bryan Stevenson.
Over 200 family members, teachers, and school community members gathered at EJI’s Legacy Hall to celebrate the new Legacy Scholars receiving their awards.
