The Equal Justice Initiative has awarded $10,000 each to 37 Montgomery Public Schools graduating seniors.
The awards are part of the 2025 Montgomery Public Schools Legacy Scholarship. Two to seven winners were selected for each of the eight high schools. The students received the awards based on their essays on their efforts at their schools or their experiences while visiting EJI’s Freedom Monument Sculpture Park, according to a news release.
This is the program’s third year. Since then, EJI has awarded 90 $10,000 awards to Montgomery students.
“We are excited to support these extraordinary young people who have distinguished themselves at their schools,” EJI Director Bryan Stevenson said. “Area students need to be supported, encouraged and affirmed when they work hard and strive to achieve greatness. Providing scholarships to MPS students and their families has been a joyous and uplifting experience for us, and we look forward to continuing our work with Montgomery high school students.”
