Empower Motivation Fitness Launches Scholarship Program for Parkinson’s Patients in Anne Arundel County – Eye On Annapolis

Empower Motivation Fitness (EMF), an Anne Arundel County-based nonprofit, is now offering scholarship grants to help individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders access its Rock Steady Boxing program. The specialized non-contact fitness classes are designed to improve mobility, strength, balance, and overall quality of life for those living with neurological conditions.
“At EMF, we believe everyone in our area should have the chance to fight back against Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, regardless of financial circumstances,” said David Fletcher, founder and CEO of EMF. “These scholarships reflect our mission to make movement-based therapy more accessible, empowering our neighbors through strength, support, and community.”
The Rock Steady Boxing program is supported by growing research showing that high-intensity exercise may help slow the progression of Parkinson’s symptoms. EMF currently offers 15 classes per week and complements its boxing program with other therapies, including art, music, and voice therapy. The organization also hosts monthly support and caregiver group meetings.
Three scholarship options are available to eligible participants:
Parkinson’s disease is the second-most common neurodegenerative disorder in the United States, behind Alzheimer’s. Nearly 90,000 Americans are newly diagnosed each year. In Anne Arundel County alone, approximately 3,000 residents are living with Parkinson’s, part of an estimated 1.1 million nationwide—a number projected to rise to 1.2 million by 2030.
“Our approach addresses the comprehensive range of physical, emotional, and social challenges associated with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders,” Fletcher said. “We’ve built a community that helps our members continue to move forward in their lives with purpose and meaningful connections.”
