Scholarship is designed to fund research needed to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities in the waste industry.
Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF), Raleigh, North Carolina, has announced a waste industry scholarship in honor of Harry Howisen, founder of H.H.H. Incorporated, a Chesterton, Indiana-based supplier of decals for the waste management industry.
The creation of the H.H.H. Safety and Spirit of the Waste Industry Scholarship, announced at WasteExpo 2024, is designed to foster safety and community spirit within the waste industry. Funded by Howisen, the scholarship will go to research to improve safety standards and nurture the next generation of industry leaders.
Howisen, an EREF member whose company is a regular sponsor at EREF events, says he seeks to drive the industry forward toward a future where it isn’t defined by its hazards but celebrated for its safety, innovation and sustainability.

Howisen says he was inspired by the positive and dynamic synergy EREF fosters to allow competitors an opportunity to have open communication and work cohesively with each other to identify current challenges and predict future ones.
