Aristeo Eusebio Esquivel and Victor Gabriel Hernandez Cirigo received scholarships from Appellation St. Helena.
Appellation St. Helena, a marketing organization for local grapegrowers and wineries, recently awarded scholarships of $500 each to St. Helena High School graduates Aristeo Eusebio Esquivel and Victor Gabriel Hernandez Cirigo, who plan to study viticulture and ag business in college.
Cirigo plans to attend Napa Valley College and major in viticulture. During high school he volunteered at the Napa Valley Marathon and with St. Helena Future Farmers of America. He played on the junior varsity soccer team.
Esquivel also plans to attend NVC and major in viticulture. He played on the varsity soccer team; in ninth grade he won the Greenhand Award.
“What excites me is being able to work with all kinds of people,” Cirigo said. “It’s something very awesome for me because I get to learn things about people and be able to make friends. It also excites me that I want to do what my dad does. I can learn some things off him as well and it’s what I’m looking forward to. This scholarship will help me to pay my classes and help me out with resources to achieve my goals.”
“What excites me most about the field of viticulture (and) enology are the details it takes to create a perfect wine,” Esquivel said. “Different grape varietals that are used to create a specific taste. This scholarship will help me pay for my transportation to college.”
“ASH supports our local viticulture and winemaking endeavors and we’re especially happy to assist young people who are looking at these vocations for their careers,” said Katie Simpson, ASH board member.
“I am deeply appreciative of how Appellation St. Helena supports the winemaking industry by investing in students through college scholarships, empowering the next generation of talent in this field,” said high school counselor Terri Linder.
