East Texas Baptist University will host the David Dykes Servant Leadership Award and ETBU Scholarship Dinner, Tuesday, April 23 at 6 p.m. The event will take place at the Green Acres Baptist Church Crosswalk Conference Center, serving as a poignant tribute to the exceptional servant leadership of David Dykes.
Throughout his tenure as the senior pastor of Green Acres Baptist Church from 1991 to 2021, Dykes embodied the principles of Christian servant leadership, leaving an indelible mark on Tyler and beyond. His commitment to pastoral ministry and dedicated service have exemplified the power of faith in action.
At ETBU, the integration of biblical faith and learning is fundamental to developing graduates who are equipped to be Christian servant leaders in their respective vocations. Dykes’ longstanding connection with ETBU, including his service on the Board of Trustees and his contributions as a visiting professor, underscores the shared commitment to equipping servant leaders within the university community.
The David Dykes Servant Leadership Award and ETBU Scholarship Dinner presents an opportunity to celebrate Dykes’ ministry and service while also raising scholarship funds to support deserving students on their educational journey at ETBU. In an increasingly complex world, the need for Christian scholars and leaders dedicated to God’s call is more crucial than ever.
“We invite you to join us for an evening of celebration and support,” ETBU President J. Blair Blackburn said. “Together, let’s pay tribute to the enduring legacy of Dr. Dykes while fostering the growth of generations of Christian leaders through scholarship opportunities. Your partnership not only adds to the significance of this occasion, dedicated to honoring Dr. David Dykes, but also extends scholarship provisions that ensure present and future ETBU students receive the essential support for a journey of service to God’s Kingdom, enriching both our communities and the world at large. At the heart of ETBU’s mission lies the commitment to equip students with the knowledge, values, and skills to make a positive impact in their respective fields and communities, answering God’s call to serve.”
