East Texas Communities Foundation representatives celebrate with a student awarded the Gladys and Thomas “T.B.” Stewart Scholarship. Applications for scholarships, including this one, are open now through March 1, 2025.
East Texas Communities Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2025-2026 academic year. Students from East Texas are encouraged to apply by the deadline of March 1, 2025. Eligibility details and application links can be found on the ETCF website at etcf.org/scholarships/available-scholarships.
This year, seven new scholarships have been added to the list of opportunities, offering a variety of options for students based on their interests, backgrounds, and career aspirations.
New Scholarships for 2025:
Lady Denise Sanders Robertson Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2024 by New Life Community Church, this scholarship honors the legacy of Lady Denise Sanders Robertson, who inspired youth through her work. It supports African American high school graduates or non-traditional students from Smith County, as well as non-traditional students attending a college or university in Smith County. Eligible applicants must plan to major in Theology, Liberal Arts, Fine Arts, Social Sciences, or Physical Sciences.
Kay Howry & Freda Harder Encouragement Scholarship: Created to honor the legacies of educators Kay Howry and Freda Harder, this scholarship celebrates their dedication to motivating and inspiring students. It is available to graduating seniors from Tyler High School, Early College High School, RISE in Tyler, Texas, and LaPoynor High School in LaRue, Texas.
Larry R. Smith First Responders Scholarship: This scholarship, established in 2024 by Larry R. Smith & Friends Smiles Four Kids Golf Tournament committee, aims to assist students pursuing careers in public safety.
Eiche Family Scholarship: Supporting graduating seniors from Smith County schools, this renewable scholarship allows recipients to attend any college or university within the 32 East Texas counties served by ETCF.
St. Paul Presbyterian Scholarship: This legacy scholarship, created in 2024 by Grace Presbytery of Northeast Texas following the sale of St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Carthage, is open to students in the Grace Presbytery area. Preference is given to those influenced by the ministry of St. Paul Presbyterian Church or Grace Presbytery.
Tabbotha McGee Memorial Scholarship: Established by her husband, Broderick, to honor the life and career of Tabbotha McGee, this scholarship supports Tyler ISD students planning to attend Tyler Junior College to pursue an LVN. Preference is given to student-athletes, HOSA participants, and Tyler High School graduates.
Nancy A. Berkhouse Classical Art Scholarship: Awarded to current college students pursuing an arts degree, this scholarship prioritizes those studying the Classicism, Realism, or Classical Realism painting genres. These styles emphasize accurate proportions and realistic depictions, such as still life, portrait, landscape, and seascape painting.
