Evanston Township High School (ETHS) held its annual Senior Scholarships Night on May 7, acknowledging students in the Class of 2025 who are scholarship recipients through the ETHS Scholarship program. Throughout the night, a total of 69 ETHS seniors were honored with scholarships awarded by the ETHS College & Career Services Department. To learn more about ETHS scholarships, visit the ETHS website.
Each year, senior students are encouraged to apply for ETHS Scholarships for which they may qualify. One of the scholarships — the Oliver Baty Cunningham Memorial Prize — is by nomination only. Annah Stevenson was nominated by her fellow ETHS seniors as the 2025 recipient of the Oliver Baty Cunningham Memorial Prize.
This scholarship is awarded annually to the senior who ranks first among the members of their class in all-around qualities, including intellectual ability, capacity for leadership, sense of responsibility, and distinguished service to school and community.
ETHS Senior Annah Stevenson distinguishes herself with an intellectual curiosity and passion for learning, as well as her dedication to growth and service. She consistently set high standards for herself in the classroom, offering thoughtful insights that elevated group dynamics and inspired deeper engagement. Stevenson also served in the Emerge Leadership Program, rising from participant to Co-Chair, where she honed her communication and public speaking skills. As Teen President of the Jack and Jill North Shore chapter, she has led with empathy and integrity, earning the trust and admiration of her peers.
This year’s National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners include Evanston Township High School senior Cameron Eaton-Strong. Eaton-Strong is among the Merit Scholar designees who were chosen from more than 15,000 Finalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program.
According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), the National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies. NMSC selectors evaluate a variety of information: the finalist’s academic record, information about the school’s curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, the high school official’s written recommendation, information about the student’s activities and leadership, and the finalist’s own essay.
This year’s competition for National Merit Scholarships began in October 2023 when high school juniors took the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen for program entrants. In the fall of 2024, the highest-scoring participants in each state, representing less than one percent of the nation’s high school seniors, were named semifinalists on a state-representational basis.
