The Evanston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7186 is accepting submissions for its 2025 local scholarship programs. This year’s theme is “How are you showing patriotism and support for your country?”
The Patriot’s Pen written essay is open to middle school students, with awards of $100 for first place and $50 for second place. The Voice of Democracy audio essay competition is open to high school students, awarding $250 for first place and $100 for second place.
Local winning entries will advance to compete at the VFW District, State and National levels. Top entries at each level will receive additional cash awards. National first-place awards are $5,000 for Patriot’s Pen and $35,000 for Voice of Democracy.
Students can apply though the VFW Post 7186 Scholar’s App site by selecting the “qualifications” button at the bottom of the following links:
Applications and entries must be submitted by midnight Friday, Oct. 31.
