Texas State Technical College recently dedicated the David and Valerie Fallas Robotics and Industrial Controls Lab in honor of two longtime supporters.
The space at the Dr. Roy Dugger Center on TSTC’s campus bears a plaque that reads: “In recognition of the exceptional contribution made to TSTC students in the field of robotics. TSTC recognizes the Fallas’ extraordinary generosity and unwavering commitment to training tomorrow’s leaders in the robotics industry.”
“Every student who walks through these doors will see the Fallas name,” said Provost Beth Wooten during a ceremony in November. “They will know that you believed in them. I can’t think of a greater impact.”
In November 2023, the Fallas family gave $1 million to the TSTC Foundation to establish a scholarship that supports students in the industrial systems and robotics/industrial controls technology programs.
The $10,000 scholarship will be awarded to several students annually. At a Nov. 19 luncheon at TSTC’s John B. Connally Visitor Center, the first group of students to receive the scholarship was announced. Students in the robotics and industrial controls technology program who received the scholarship were Damon Brock of Waco, Richard Harned of Fort Worth, Tyler Harrison of Waco, Sean Higgins of Plano and Paden Lunday of Waco.
Students in the industrial systems program who received the scholarship were Kaiden McQuitty of Fort Worth, Jasmine Olivar of Gatesville and Tavaris Sullivan of Temple.
All are first-semester TSTC students. The TSTC Foundation estimates that at least 100 students will receive the scholarship in the coming years.
The family founded Fallas Automation in 1979, which manufactures automated and robotic packaging equipment, as well as other product handling systems. Headquartered at 7000 Imperial Drive in Waco, Fallas has hired several Baylor University and TSTC graduates over the years.
