Amy and Sean Maher are battling to find their way through the aftermath of a tragedy that few can relate to, after the recent passing of their son, Eli Rosser.
Amy, a Toccoa native and Eli’s mother, and Sean, Eli’s stepfather who has lived in Toccoa for a large portion of his life, sat down with WNEG News last week to talk about memories of their son Eli, and talk about the scholarship they are creating to honor his legacy.
They talked about how Eli would want to be remembered, and the things that were important to him, especially his involvement in JROTC in high school and the Boars Head Brigade at UNG.
They talked about what they remember most about Eli, from his goofy smile to his big heart and his loving spirit.
Amy said there are lessons to learn through the tragedy of Eli’s death.
She talked about how the idea for the scholarship came about, and the support of those who knew Eli.
They talked about the details of the scholarship such as the application process, and stressed the importance of JROTC to Eli, which contributed to the decision to make the scholarship available to Stephens County JROTC cadets.
In closing, the Mahers stressed the importance of kindness, and urged people to care for those around them.
