CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The Golden Bull family honored one of the school’s legends at homecoming Saturday afternoon.
At halftime between Johnson C. Smith’s home game against Bluefield State, the family of Pettis Norman came onto the field for a special ceremony.
They presented the school with a check for $250,000 to establish a scholarship fund for students wishing to attend JCSU.
Norman passed away this summer, and his wife Ivette says this scholarship is the perfect way to honor her late husband’s legacy.
“If he were still here, he’d say ‘Thank you JCSU, for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime,’” Ivette said. “What he’s hoping is these scholarships will reinforce the importance of education first, and then whatever you’re passionate about second.”
The Golden Bulls wore stickers with Norman’s initial and number on their helmets, and won their homecoming game 69-13 over Bluefield State.
