JAMESTOWN — First Community Credit Union announces it is awarding a record $67,000 in college scholarships this year to 26 graduating high school seniors.
Leah Trumbauer of Jamestown High School was awarded a multi-year scholarship to the University of Mary. Kamden Herzig of Jamestown High School was awarded a multi-year scholarship to the University of Jamestown. Abby Ryun of Medina High School was awarded a single-year scholarship to the University of Minnesota Crookston, and Maddie Gefroh, also of Medina High School, was awarded a single-year scholarship to Bismarck State College.

Abby Ryun of Woodworth was also chosen as the winner of the best essay, winning a $250 Visa gift card.
FCCU and its board of directors will provide 11 multi-year scholarships valued at $5,000 or $2,500 to 12 students incuding Herzig, Levi Buchholz of Fredonia and Kate Gramlow of Oakes.
In addition, FCCU is providing 11 other single-year $1,000 scholarships to students including
Samantha McHarry of Oakes, and Cianna Fanta of Steele.

We were delighted to see such a large number of applications and are proud to be able to provide a record $67,000 in scholarships this year,” said Steve Schmitz, CEO of First Community Credit Union. “Best of luck to all our graduates in your future endeavors.”
Over the past 29 years, FCCU has given out more than $760,000 in scholarships. The board of directors recognizes the importance of young people receiving a good education. In 2014, FCCU created a program that supports its dedication to area communities by reinvesting in youth. FCCU donated $1 million into a scholarship foundation to provide additional scholarship dollars to graduating high school students. The earnings from the foundation go to fund scholarship opportunities for members of the credit union for years to come.
