(Allendale, MI) – A federal civil rights complaint has been filed against Grand Valley State University, accusing the school of racial discrimination on some scholarships. The Equal Protection Project filed the complaint with the U.S. Department of Education about eleven scholarships only open to students of color, such as the Johnny Burton Memorial Scholarship only being open to African American students. A Steelcase scholarship is also only open to students of color and the complaint says “you could not have a more clear racial standard.”
GVSU says they are “committed to full compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.”
