Sep 29, 2025
The Annual Lantz Bricker Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Salem High School graduate Troy Gibson during the July 26 annual alumni game. Gibson is a 2025 graduate of Salem High School. He was a stellar athlete for Salem High School, participating in many extra-curricular activities. Some of his achievements were seen weekly on the soccer field. Others were each Friday night on the football field as the kicker for the varsity football team. He also created memories that will last a lifetime on the baseball diamond for Salem’s varsity baseball team. He will attending The Ohio State University pursuing a degree in civil engineering. Gibson is the final recipient of the Lantz Bricker Scholarship — the family feels there could not be a better recipient. “Troy had many of the same qualities that were enjoyed and admired about Lantz,” the family said. “They were both athletic and intelligent. Both young men were kind, compassionate and always up for a good time.” Lantz Bricker was a 1999 Salem High School graduate and standout varsity athlete, participating in soccer, baseball and football. After losing him in an accident on Jan 31, 2006, friends and family established a scholarship memorializing the kind of athlete he was, while helping young athletes entering the next stage of their lives. The family thanks fundraising coordinators Mike DeBarr, Chad Copacia, Kenny Donnelly and Matt Wolf. Special thanks to Frank and Molly Copacia who hosted the event for many years and to those supporting the scholarship.
