Makenzie Emerick of the Vandalia Community High School cheer squad has been selected as one of the top 10 finalists for the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association Scholarship for 2024-25. The ICCA will be awarding $25,000 in scholarships, and each finalist is guaranteed a scholarship of at least $1,000. The next step for Emerick is participating in an interview session on Jan. 10, the day before the VCHS squad competes. Senior cheerleaders from all over Illinois applied and finalists were selected based on a combination of GPA and cheerleading skills.
