Thursday, April 17, was a big day for several athletes at Stanhope Elmore High School, as five different students signed with colleges to continue their athletic careers.
Included below is a small portion of the quotes made by each signee during their signing ceremony:
Zoie Holmes (volleyball) – Lawson State
Holmes excelled on one of the top SEHS volleyball teams in recent memory. She is a finalist for the Joe Sewell Award, given to the top student athlete in Elmore County.
“I want to give thanks to God, who is the head of my life, and I want to thank you all for being here. I want to say thank you to all of my coaches, past and present, for molding me into the player that I am today. Thank you to my future coaches for seeing me as a valuable asset for the 2025 freshman roster.  Thank you to my teammates, past, present and future. You became a community I never knew I needed.”
Holmes also thanked each member of her family for the important role that they had in her life.
Jay Myers (soccer) – Mississippi College
Myers has played varsity soccer since 8th grade, and is the captain of the 2025 team that has been ranked in the top 10 of Class 6A for nearly the entire season. He has scored 24 goals this season.
“Without Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, none of this would be possible. And I want to encourage everyone in this room that doesn’t have a relationship with Him to talk with someone and further that relationship. I want to thank my parents. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to do any of this. I want to thank every single one of my coaches. Everyone that’s been in my life, my friends, my teammates, Jon, my youth pastor, I just want to thank all of them. I want to thank my future coach for giving me the opportunity to play at this next level.”
Thomas Richardson (soccer) – Southern Union Community College
Richardson is the leading scorer on the Mustangs’ soccer team that is ranked in the top 10 of Class 6A, with 25 goals this season. He also has the distinction of being the first ever player to score a goal in the new 17 Springs Stadium when it opened this season.
“First, I want to give the glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He’s put me on this journey for a reason, and I want to give all the thanks to Him. Next, I want to thank my parents, for all the money and time that they spent so I can play the sport that I love. Next I’d like to thank my coaches and my future coaches, for putting their trust in me and allowing me to play for the program. I’d like to thank my teammates for the memories we’ve made.”
Jamari Coleman (football) – Huntingdon College
Coleman was a captain on the 2025 varsity football team. He was a threat at wide receiver and returning kickoffs and punts, providing some of the most electric plays during the season.
“First off, I want to give glory to God. Without Him, I wouldn’t be in this position. I want to thank my mom for being there for me, when nobody else was. She was always in my corner. I really appreciate you for that. I want to thank my siblings for being the reason to keep moving forward. I want to thank my coaches for developing me into the man I am today. I also want to thank my athletic trainer, Tyler. I want to thank my teammates. I will always consider you guys my brothers.”
Toni Taylor (Track and Field) – Huntingdon College
In addition to excelling at track and field in discuss and shot put, Taylor was also the beloved school mascot. Athletic Director and Football Coach Hunter Adams called Taylor one of the best mascots in school history.
“First, I want to thank my mom, my dad, and my sister. My mom was always there for me, every time I had a new sport in mind. She took me to every track meet, wherever it was. She did not let me ride that bus. I want to thank my dad for giving me confidence and telling me I was the best.”
