Lainey Mungle, a senior at Fountain Lake High School, was recently selected to receive the competitive $2,500 STAR Scholarship from the PEO Sisterhood International.
She was recommended by PEO Chapter CR of Hot Springs Village. The PEO STAR Scholarship provides scholarships for women in their final year of high school who exhibit excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success, a news release said.
During her senior year, Mungle was the captain of the girls basketball and tennis teams, and president of student council, National Honor Society, BETA Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the SigFig Science Club. As a 4.0 student, she is an honor graduate of Fountain Lake. She has participated in the HOBY Leadership Seminar and volunteers with the United Way, Special Olympics, The Salvation Army and her church. Mungle plans to pursue aviation with the possibility of becoming a missionary pilot, the release said.
Since its inception in 1869, the nonprofit Philanthropic Educational Organization, or PEO, has helped more than 125,000 women pursue educational goals by providing approximately $432 million in grants, scholarships, awards and loans. Through membership, the PEO sisterhood has brought together more than half a million women in the United States and Canada who are passionate about helping women advance through education, it said.
