The Flathead Electric Cooperative sent out the following:
Flathead Electric Co-op offers local students over $120,000 in scholarships this year. Awards range from $1,500 to $6,000. Applications are due February 23. The applicant or their parent/legal guardian must be a member of Flathead Electric Cooperative, served by the Co-op at their primary residence. Graduating high school seniors across the Co-op’s service area, as well as current undergraduates, are encouraged to explore the requirements on the Co-op’s website: flatheadelectric.com/scholarships.
Unclaimed capital credits fund all Co-op scholarships. Despite the Co-op’s best efforts to return capital credits to its members, some go unclaimed. Usually, this is because a member moves and doesn’t update their mailing address. The Co-op can use capital credits that go unclaimed for 5 or more years for educational purposes. If the Co-op chose not to use the unclaimed capital credits for educational purposes, these funds would go into the Montana General Fund.
The Co-op strives to award scholarship dollars to meet varied community needs across its service area. Scholarship dollars are earmarked for each area high school, including Stillwater Christian School. Dollars are also set aside for homeschool graduates and for those already attending a post-secondary Montana education institution. Additionally, scholarships are awarded yearly to students pursuing trades degrees, including those interested in attending Flathead Valley Community College’s Early Childhood Education Program or Montana Tech’s Pre-Apprentice Line Program.
Scholarship opportunities through Co-op partners Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) and the Montana Electric Cooperatives Association (MECA) are also open. BEPC and MECA applications close on January 15, 2025.
To learn more about any of these scholarship opportunities, visit the Co-op's website: flatheadelectric.com/scholarships.
