TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The Flint Hills Technical College (FHTC) held its 23rd annual fundraiser, raising $214,000 during its Kentucky Derby-themed Run for the Roses Gala on Friday at White Auditorium in Emporia.
The evening was comprised of simulated horse racing, silent and live auctions, and southern-inspired cuisine prepared by FHTC Hospitality and Culinary Arts students.
Proceeds from the gala directly support student scholarships, program development, and campus improvements at FHTC.
“We are overwhelmed by the community’s generosity and support for our students,” said Mike Crouch, VP of Advancement. “The funds raised tonight will make a significant impact on students’ ability to pursue their educational goals and enter the workforce prepared for success.”
Robert Nelson, Executive Director of Video and Engineering Services at Kansas State University, was honored with the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award. Nelson, who attended what was then Flint Hills Area Vo-Tech School in 1976-1977, has built an illustrious four-decade career in broadcast engineering.
