FLORENCE, S.C. (WPDE) — A Florence civic women's group is helping students go to college.
The National Council of Negro Women Florence-Bethune section held a golf tournament Sunday to benefit their scholarship program.
They had golfers from across the state to participate in the tournament.
Members of the organization say their goal is plain and simple: to give back to their community.
"We have to step up. We also have to be part of the community. to help our kids. so, they can defray the cost of going to college," said President of the group, Contessa Bradley.

"We are doing all of this just because we care. We want to help some young, deserving individuals pursue an education. to help them to be a better, productive citizen," said Mayor of Florence, Lethonia Barnes.
The organization was founded in 1935 by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, who was an influential educator and activist.
The group says the scholarships they give to students will help them pay for books and meals while in college.
