Food, drinks, raffle items on tap for annual Oconeefest on UNC Oconee Campus – Online Athens
The annual Oconeefest fundraising event will be held this year at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16 on the Oconee Campus of the University of North Georgia in Watkinsville.
The two-hour event raises scholarship money for students who are residents of Oconee County and current students who plan to attend a four-year UNG campus.
The festival includes food and raffle items donated by a variety of sources, from local businesses to faculty members and staff. Among those providing food are Holy Crepes, Funky Funnel Cakes, Jojo’s Gourmet Lemonade, Biggum’s BBQ, and South Main Brewing. Admission to the event is free.
This year, due to the festival, five $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Oconee residents who are incoming freshmen, and two $1,000 scholarships were awarded to current students who continued their education at another UNG campus.
The campus in Watkinsville is a two-year college. Russell Wilson, executive director of the Oconee campus, issued a statement saying, “My favorite part is watching the whole surrounding community come together for this cause.”
Anyone wishing to donate to the scholarship fund may also donate through the website Oconeefest webpage.
