In recent years, there has been a rise in the number of women excelling in academia and breaking new grounds in fields traditionally dominated by men.
This trend is particularly profound in Africa, where more women are gaining recognition for their academic achievements, and the story of Sabrina Ameyaw, a graduate of the University of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and 2021 president of the National Union of Ghana Students, NUGS, is no exception.
The young Ghanaian woman has achieved a remarkable feat by earning three prestigous scholarships from the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, and MC Gill University, all in Canada.
These scholarships are structured to support her graduate studies and research at the three Canadian universities.
In addition to the comprehensive Mastercard Foundation Scholarship, she has also been selected for Graduate Teaching Assistant positions at the University of Vermont, Oregon State University, and Texas Tech University for the upcoming Fall 2024 academic term.
In a post shared on her timeline, she stated, “Guess who’s a three-time Mastercard Foundation Scholar at Canada’s top three universities—University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, McGill University—and also secured GTA positions at the University of Vermont, Oregon State University, and Texas Tech-—Fall 24.”
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is a global initiative designed to develop the next generation of transformative leaders by enabling highly talented, service-oriented young people, primarily young Africans, to pursue higher education and cultivate their leadership potential.
