BEVERLY — Laine Spindler, a senior at Fort Frye High School, has been named a National Merit Scholarship finalist, placing her among the top 1% of U.S. high school students based on her outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT.
The recognition is awarded to students who demonstrate academic ability, leadership and dedication to their communities.
Earning a spot as a finalist required Spindler to confirm her earlier success by achieving a qualifying SAT score after earning a competitive PSAT score. In addition to her top test scores, Spindler submitted documentation highlighting her school and community involvement, leadership roles and employment history.
Her achievements have made her eligible to compete for National Merit Scholarships, as well as Corporate-Sponsored and College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships.
“This recognition is an incredible honor,” Spindler said. “I’m grateful for my teachers, mentors, and family who have supported me along the way. I’m excited for what’s ahead at Brown University and beyond.”
Spindler has demonstrated a passion for mathematics and medicine, completing an internship with Marietta Memorial Hospital in 2024 and attending class at both Stanford University and Marietta College to supplement her high school studies during her junior and senior years.
She will attend Brown University in fall 2025 and plans to major in mathematics with the intention of going to medical school.
Her goal is to combine her analytical skills with health care, positioning herself for a career in the health care industry.
