The Fortuna Garden Club has awarded scholarships to two graduating seniors, one who graduated from Fortuna Union High School and one who graduated from the Academy of the Redwoods.
Fortuna Union High School graduate Faith Helms and Academy of the Redwoods graduate Tanayah Keisling-Limberg have each received a $2,000 scholarship.
Helms plans to attend College of the Redwoods in the fall and pursue a degree in forestry. During her high school years, she was active in the Culinary Club, Future Farmers of America, Link Crew, Fortuna Police explorers, and played softball.
Helms also has a cottage baking business called Heavenly Helms Goodies.
Keisling-Limberg is planning to attend either Cal Poly Humboldt or UC Davis and major in either zoology or animal science. She has spent many volunteer hours in the community with Humboldt Roller Derby, Foggy Bottom Boys, the College of the Redwoods certified organic farm, Humboldt County Youth Human Rights Commission, and Companion Animal Foundations.
“Fortuna Garden Club is pleased to support the youth in our community,” Fortuna Garden Club spokesperson Becky Giacomini said.
Fortuna Garden Club scholarships are awarded annually to students pursuing fields of study, including landscape design, horticulture, floriculture, natural resources, or any agricultural-related pathway.
