Some of the 33 Kaua‘i High School seniors celebrated receiving their Kaua‘i High School Foundation scholarships during the KHS Senior Banquet at the Smith’s Tropical Paradise on Sunday, May 5, 2024.
WAILUA — The Kaua‘i High School Foundation took advantage of the school’s senior banquet held Sunday night to present 33 graduating seniors with a total of $80,000 at Smith’s Tropical Paradise.
WAILUA — The Kaua‘i High School Foundation took advantage of the school’s senior banquet held Sunday night to present 33 graduating seniors with a total of $80,000 at Smith’s Tropical Paradise.
Ten of the graduating seniors, who will be heading to two-year college and vocational school, shared $16,000. The remaining $64,000 was shared by 23 students, who are planning to attend four-year colleges and universities.
Of the 10 students heading to two-year colleges, six are planning on attending the Kaua‘i Community College with interests ranging from nursing to teaching, business and creative media.
The largest scholarship for two-year colleges was for $2,500 and presented to four students. The largest scholarship for four-year colleges and universities was for $5,000 and presented to six students.
The Kaua‘i High School Foundation is dedicated to serving the students of the island’s first high school by promoting scholarship, providing financial support for educational programs and capital improvement projects, and sponsoring activities to advance the school.
The foundation is supported by donor programs and gifts from alumni, friends and corporate benefactors.
“One thing to remember,” said Kaua‘i High School Foundation president Gary Yamamoto. “This is a privilege to be giving back to our high school, and certainly in the name of our teachers, wherever they may be.”
