SYLACAUGA, Ala. – 39 high school seniors in Alabama will receive financial help on their collegiate journeys starting this year, including three from Sylacauga and one from Fayetteville, thanks to the Alabama Municipal Authority (AMEA) and its Member cities/utilities.
Through the 2024 AMEA Scholarship Program, these students will receive vital financial assistance as they pursue higher education. Each of the 39 recipients will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship, totaling $97,500 for the program this year.
AMEA received a significant number of applications, with 130 hopefuls vying for the scholarships.
Since its inception in 1992, the program has granted over $3.5 million to graduating seniors who receive their electric service from AMEA Members.
“We take our role as a good corporate citizen seriously,” said Fred D. Clark, Jr., AMEA President and CEO. “That’s why we, along with our Members, support education initiatives like the AMEA Scholarship Program that contribute to making our state economically competitive. We congratulate this year’s scholarship winners.”
Among the recipients are Sarah Tucker Beane and Camilla Brooke Friday of Sylacauga High School (SHS) along with Atticus Samuel Jacks of Fayetteville High School, all from the Sylacauga Utilities Board’s service area.
Additionally, Maya Ashvin Patel of SHS received the AMEA Community College/Vocational School Scholarship from the same area.
AMEA, established in 1981, serves as the wholesale power provider for 11 public power utilities in Alabama, catering to around 350,000 customers across various cities in the state.
