The club also announced Macie Hilliard and Kyler Cummings as the recipients of the Dick Janas Scholarship.
Both scholarships are provided by the N.C. Association of Agriculture Fairs, which is aimed at promoting interest in agricultural fairs across the state.
“Receiving these scholarships as a result of their volunteer time with the Lee Regional Fair or working with Fun Rides and Events and American Sky Lifts, the students will use the scholarships to help with their college expenses,” said Preston Sellers, manager of the Lee Regional Fair.
At a recent meeting of the Sanford Lions Club, Ronnie Turner, associate member of the state Agricultural Fairs and board representative for the carnivals, presented the scholarships.
“For the first time in the association’s history, both scholarships are going to four students from one county, and I am proud to say they are all from Lee County,” Turner said.
Anna is the daughter of Melinda and Howard Marks and a graduate of Southern Lee High School. She plans to study art education at UNC-Greensboro.
Kinley is the daughter of Kimberly Rains and Kevin Scott and graduated from Grace Christian School. She plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill to study international business.
The Dick Janas Scholarship was presented to Macie Hilliard by Cathy Horton, the executive secretary for the state Association of Agricultural Fairs during a graduation event. Assisting with the presentation was Turner, a board member and proud “Papa” to Macie.
She is the daughter of Melissa and Jared Hilliard and graduated from Lee Christian School. She plans to attend Central Carolina Community College and study cosmetology and business management.
Kyler, the son of Brad and Kimberly Cummings, graduated from Western Harnett High School and plans to attend Central Carolina Community College.
“We are glad to offer these scholarships to our Lee County students and wish them well as they pursue their educational goals,” Sellers said.
Sponsored by the Sanford Lions Club, the 2024 Lee Regional Fair’s “The Tradition Lives On!” will be held Sept.11-15. Check out leeregionalfair.com for upcoming events.
