ALBANY – Four Monroe senior football players signed national letters of intent to continue their education and football careers during a ceremony Monday in the school’s gymnasium. The event was filled with excitement as cheerleaders, the band, parents, teammates, and members of Monroe’s senior class gathered to celebrate. But the spotlight belonged to the four signees.
Ka’Ron Noird, Jordan Washington, Kameyon Green, and Mitchell Cullen all took the next step in their football journeys, officially committing to their respective colleges.
Noird, a standout on the defensive side of the ball, received 12 Division I offers but ultimately chose to play for Division II Tuskegee University, a rival of Albany State.
“I really wanted to play for an HBCU,” Noird said. “And I liked the way they did things at Tuskegee. I’ll get to play a ‘nickel’ position, which is a mix of defensive back and linebacker.”
Ka’Ron is the son of Kierra Noird, Cassandra Edmonds, and Dallas Edmonds.

Washington, Monroe’s dynamic quarterback who amassed more than 3,000 total yards in his senior season, signed with the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky, where he will transition to wide receiver.
“I chose the Cumberlands because they offered me a full ride,” Washington said. “That way, my family doesn’t have to come out of pocket for my education.”
Washington plans to major in education and hopes to become a teacher and coach.
While Monroe head coach Lacey Herring had special words for each of the signees, his remarks about Washington stood out.
“I saw something in Jordan early when he was a freshman,” Herring said. “He was playing behind Corey Randle, who was a great quarterback, but I knew I had to get Jordan on the field. He was too talented to stand on the sidelines. So he agreed to play wide receiver and made first-team All-Region. Then, when Randle graduated, he became our quarterback.
“Of all the quarterbacks I’ve coached, I’ve never had one put up the kind of numbers he did. Before the season, he told me he wanted to pass for 2,000 yards. I told him that was a big number. But he did it. When Jordan sets his mind to something, he’s going to do it.”
Jordan is the son of Dalphine Livingston and Quincy Washington.
Kameyon Green, one of Monroe’s leading tacklers, will stay close to home and play at Andrew College in Cuthbert. Nicknamed “Crazy 6” by his teammates, Green will be part of Andrew’s first-ever football team, playing linebacker. He is the son of Kamisha Green.
The first to sign Monday was Mitchell Cullen, who will continue his career at Shorter University in Rome. Cullen is joining Shorter as a long-snapper. He is the son of Kenyetta Wilson.
Cullen thanked his mom, coaches, and teammates for helping him get this opportunity.
