The Port Huron Elks Lodge 343 Past Exalted Rulers Association recently presented its four annual Educational Assistance Program scholarships.
The PER scholarship program is available to graduating local high school seniors from six area high schools. Applications are sent out to the school counselors in February with submittal return date the second Monday in May. Students attending college and/or a trade school from the local area are awarded a one-time $1,000 scholarship through the program.
“Students are not obligated to use this solely on classroom expenses,” the organization said in a news release. “It is meant to alleviate financial burdens of attending any of the vocational, college or universities of which they have chosen to attend. Through our yearlong fundraisers and activities, the PER Association raises funds for these scholarships and our annual Holiday Baskets for Needy Families.”
This year’s PER scholarships went to Rylee E. Thompson, of Port Huron High School; Ryan R. Quain, of Marysville High School; Danica C. DeBell, of Port Huron Northern High School, and Caiden E. Lohr, of St. Clair High School.
“The competition was extremely close and the choices were difficult to make,” the group said. “The PERs as a group completed the evaluation process of all applicants. We would like to offer our sincere congratulations to the … students who were selected as the awarded recipients out of the 22 applicants we received.”
