ATLANTA — Emory University announced a major change Wednesday, where students whose families earn $200,000 or less will attend the school tuition-free beginning fall of 2026. The university shared the news on its website Wednesday.
The university said the Emory Advantage Plus scholarship expands the school’s financial aid program. New and returning domestic undergraduate students who meet the income requirements and are eligible for need-based aid will be considered for free tuition. For Georgia students, the award will compliment the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships.
“Offering free tuition to every student whose family income is $200,000 or less is about leadership,” says Interim President Leah Ward Sears. “We want great students to come here without regard to the cost. And we will do everything in our power to give them a great education without the burden of crushing debt.”
Sears said in a video message that she helped lead an internal review about making Emory more affordable.
University officials said that the original Emory Advantage program started in 2007 to aid students with lower incomes. It was expanded in 2022 by eliminating need-based loans as a part of undergrads’ financial aid packages; they were replaced with grants and scholarships.
Below are some of the stats Emory provided:
Students will need to submit the Free Application of Federal Student Aid and the College Scholarship Service Profile. Emory’s financial aid office will provide more information about the program later this year.
