NORTH AUGUSTA — Several local students’ college and career dreams are now closer to reality thanks to scholarships awarded by a group that supports the Nancy Carson Library in North Augusta.
The Friends of the Nancy Carson Library presented three scholarships to students pursuing higher education during a reception held May 19 at the library.
In 2022, the board approved an initiative to award scholarships to graduating students who live in the 29841 and 29860 ZIP codes. This year, the board awarded one $1,000 scholarship and two $500 scholarships.
“You all are part of a precious group of scholars as well as being part of the Nancy Carson Friends of the Library Family,” she said. “We will be following your progress and we hope that you would look to us as a source for your future.”

Fox Creek High School student Taylor Snarski was awarded the $1,000 scholarship, designated for a student attending a four-year college. Snarski plans to attend USC Aiken and study chemistry.
She said she was excited when she received the call notifying her of the award.
“I really love science, and I know this scholarship will help me with my studies,” Snarski said.
She shared that while she once wanted to be a veterinarian, her interest in chemistry was sparked by a high school teacher in 10th grade. Her current goal is to work in nuclear chemistry at the Savannah River Site, or to pursue a career in inorganic chemistry.
“I’m so glad I got this,” she said. “I really think it will help me and many others.”
Kathie Stallworth, who serves on the board for the Friends of the Nancy Carson Library, said the scholarship committee had a difficult time choosing a second $1,000 recipient. Instead, the award was split into two $500 scholarships for additional students.
North Augusta High School student Natalie Venable received one of the $500 scholarships. She plans to attend the Aiken School of Cosmetology and Barbering to study esthetics and pursue a career helping clients with skincare routines.
The second $500 scholarship went to Barrett Becka, a student at Wardlaw Academy, who plans to attend Aiken Technical College to become an electrician.
Several past recipients also spoke during the reception, sharing their experiences in college and reflecting on how the scholarship helped them continue their education.
Meera Chokshi, a 2023 scholarship winner, currently attends Winthrop University, where she is majoring in musical theater with a minor in education.
“I’m so grateful for all the support I have received, and I truly have found my home at my school,” she said.
Jax Carroll, a 2024 recipient, is an accounting major at USC Aiken. He said the scholarship gave him a chance to support others and is considering joining the Friends of the Nancy Carson Library in the future to help give back and improve the program.
Christian Jackson, another 2023 recipient, now attends the University of South Carolina in Columbia, studying mechanical engineering. He offered advice to the new recipients, encouraging them to stay focused.
“I’m grateful for the scholarship money because not only did it help me attend school, it also gave me a new experience,” Jackson added. “I got to meet a lot of new people.”
