The Music Industry program at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music recently picked up a prestigious honor, as one of three schools to win a Braylin Campbell Memorial Music Business Scholarship Foundation scholarship. The Frost School, the University of North Texas, and Berklee College of Music will each receive $20,000, which was announced at this year’s Music Business Association’s 2025 MusicBiz Conference in Atlanta.
“There are 24 Music Business Association academic partner institutions that were eligible to apply for the scholarship, so I knew the competition would be steep,” said Serona Elton, director of the Frost School’s Music Industry program (and winner of the Association’s Educator of the Year award in 2023).
The award will go toward the program’s Music Industry Micro-Grants Initiative (MIMI). “The program allows current Music Industry majors to apply for micro-grants to help pay for activities like traveling to and attending an industry conference, or getting certified in technology tools and platforms,” said Elton. “Thanks to this award, we can keep our MIMIs active for another year.”
Established in 1966 and referred to since 2013 as the Music Business Association Scholarship Foundation, the award’s name was changed in 2024 to honor an Association staff member who passed away last year. This was also the first time that the Association paid scholarship grants to academic-partner institutions (they previously went directly to students).
“Congratulations to the schools that will receive funding from the Braylin Campbell Memorial Scholarship Foundation this year,” said Music Biz President Portia Sabin in a statement. “The Foundation’s important work of supporting tomorrow’s music business leaders wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our community, so we at Music Biz want to thank the music industry companies, executives, and our extended family for helping make these financial aid packages possible!”
