The NAPEGG Education Foundation is backed by public donations and the NWT and Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists.
Its scholarships are “designed to help students overcome” extra challenges like the cost of leaving the North to pursue their education, said foundation president Paul Guy.
Guy said the foundation hopes students will return to the North to contribute to its communities once they graduate.
“Our goal is to help build pathways for students in the North to pursue engineering and geoscience careers so they can reach their professional aspirations and fill many of the high-demand roles in the territories,” he said.

“These scholarships are one important way we support future leaders in these fields, providing them with the resources they need to continue their studies and ultimately strengthen the workforce in northern communities.”
This year’s graduate scholarship recipient is Jade Lockie, a PhD candidate in earth and environmental sciences at the University of BC Okanagan.
Other scholarship recipients named by the foundation are Ethan Aumond, Elaine Cronk, Joseph Curran, Ian Gau, Isabella Karl, Gordon Kwong, Kabbamoy Paul, Roald Peters, Cassie Rogers and Stella Wong.
