GADSDEN, AL — Gadsden State Community College students are making impressive strides toward their academic and professional futures, earning more than $650,000 in scholarships to transfer to four-year universities across Alabama. These scholarships highlight both academic excellence and leadership potential among the college’s student body.
Five Alabama universities awarded scholarships to Gadsden State students, offering them a path forward in higher education without the burden of full tuition costs. The scholarships range in value and include prestigious awards such as full-tuition and presidential scholarships.
Jacksonville State University led the way, awarding a total of $293,500 in scholarships. Among the recipients, Eleaxus Pettus received the top Presidential Scholarship valued at $21,180 over two years. The Achievement Transfer Scholarship, worth $12,000, was awarded to 32 students, including Austin Bates, Jaylyn Minshew, and Jessica Lammonds. Additional scholarships included the Academic Transfer Scholarship ($6,000), Opportunity Transfer Scholarship ($4,000), Gamecock Transfer Scholarship ($2,000), and the Spring Supplemental Transfer Scholarship ($1,500), awarded to dozens of deserving students.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham followed with $208,500 in scholarship awards. Three students—Lilly Rebarchik, Macey Johnson, and Charles McIntire—each received the $12,000 Presidential Scholarship. Numerous other awards ranging from $500 to $4,000 were distributed to students such as Deonna Sumpter, Stephanie Maldonado, and Hunter Hanners, who were recognized multiple times across categories.
The University of Alabama awarded 15 scholarships to Gadsden State students. Among the top honors, Ellen Malaina and McKinley Kay received the full-tuition Alabama Community College Presidential Transfer Scholarship. Additional recognitions included the Community College Merit Scholarship, Roll Tide Transfer Scholarships, Alabama Transfer Scholarship, Alabama’s Promise Scholarship, and UA Transfer Excellence Scholarships.
The University of Alabama at Huntsville granted a $3,000 Super Scholar Transfer Scholarship to Sarah Daniel and Briteon Husk, and a $1,500 Transfer Merit Scholarship to Bryan Barrientos.
Athens State University also joined in supporting Gadsden State students, awarding six $2,000 scholarships to April Davis, Emma Earl, Matthew Fleming, Amy Glover, Justin Morris, and Lane Self.
These scholarship achievements reflect the strong academic foundation and potential of Gadsden State students. By earning these awards, students are not only being recognized for their past accomplishments but are also being empowered to continue their educational journeys at Alabama’s top universities.
