Eight Galeton High School students have been awarded scholarships from the William and L.R. Gale Community Foundation. This year’s recipients are: Mckenna Barnes, daughter of Matthew and Denise Barnes who plans to attend North Hampton Community College majoring in sonography; Lynlee Basile, daughter of Daniel Basile and Mistie Burrous, who plans to attend Lancaster School of Cosmetology & Therapeutic Bodywork with a concentration in cosmetology; Audrianna Calderon, daughter of Judy Mead, plans to attend Salisbury University majoring in chemistry; Angelina Calderon, daughter of Roberto Calderon and Judy Mead, plans to attend Shippensburg University majoring in human resource management; Eve Cole, daughter of Norton and Kimberly Cole, plans to attend Corning Community College majoring in math and science; Macey Marie Crowell, daughter of Wesley and Penny Crowell, plans to attend Penn State University majoring in criminology; Ashley Hanes, daughter of Jeremy Hanes and Jessica Gleason who plans to attend Salem State University majoring in marine biology and Violet Love Knapp, daughter of Christopher and Virginia Knapp who plans to attend Geneva College majoring in biology and environmental science.
The scholarship program was started in 2013 for current high school seniors attending Galeton Area High School who have been accepted to an accredited college, university or trade school. The scholarship awards may be used to help pay for tuition, books and room and board charges and are paid directly to the college, university or trade school.
The annual scholarship for vocational studies was created under the auspices of the Gale Foundation by Francis Crew in memory of Herman and Berta Robbins. The recipient of the Herman & Berta Robbins Vocational Scholarship for 2025 is Lynlee Basile, daughter of Daniel Basile and Mistie Burrous who plans to attend Lancaster School of Cosmetology & Therapeutic Bodywork with a concentration in cosmetology.
The William and L.R. Gale Community Foundation provides grants to community organizations located in the Galeton borough and surrounding area. These one-time grants will help the community in many areas.
Endless Mountain Music Festival – $5,000
Friends of the Galeton Public Library — $5,000
Galeton Fireworks Committee — $8,000
Galeton Ministerium, Inc. — $5,000
Teacher’s Pet Rescue — $2,500
Any 501©(3) organization located in Galeton borough can submit applications to the Gale Foundation throughout the year.
