PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – One high school student with a passion for giving voice to her community recently won our 2024 Glenn Wilson Broadcast Journalism Scholarship.
Allyson Powers is a senior at Parkersburg High School and was this year’s recipient of the scholarship. The Glenn Wilson Broadcast Journalism Scholarship is worth $2,500.
Powers’ passion for journalism started through a class she took her sophomore year of high school before she decided to join the PHS Media Department, which made her love journalism even more.
She worked on the school newspaper and the yearbook during her time with the PHS Media Department.
Powers is hoping to begin her career at WTAP in the future because she would love to be able to work at her hometown station and have family watch her continue to pursue her dreams.
Powers is undecided about where she would like to go to college in the fall, but is considering Ohio University, West Virginia University, and West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
