Ten girls from Girls Inc. of Carpinteria — ranging from elementary students to high school graduates preparing to head off to college — were honored last week at the Lions Club of Carpinteria with a variety of awards and scholarships.
The elementary school awards were presented to Genesis Esparza, Vivi Vega and Abby Putnam, who earned the Strong, Smart and Bold Awards, respectively. Makayla Sanchez received the Girl of the Year award.
For middle school and high school students, Adalynn Wright received the Inspiration Award, and Allyson Padilla received the Eureka! Dedication Award.
Scholarship recipients included Dulce Perez, who received the Patty & Terry Bliss Scholarship; Valeria Zamora, who received the Camilla L. Calene Griffin Scholarship; Caden Lemere, who received the Strong, Smart, and Bold Senior Award; and Evelyn Calkins, who received the Pearce Family STEM Scholarship. Calkins was also a Girls Inc. National Scholarship recipient.
