The Girls on the Run Delaware Inaugural Limitless Potential Alumni Scholarship was recently awarded to a program alumna in each county in Delaware.
The Meoli Companies McDonald’s Restaurants generously sponsored the scholarships for recipients in Sussex and Kent counties.
“For the past 20 years, Girls on the Run Delaware has empowered nearly 32,000 girls throughout Delaware,” said Kim Chitty, Girls on the Run Delaware executive director. “This alumni scholarship is designed to support former Girls on the Run participants who embody the limitless potential fostered through the program as they pursue their postsecondary education.”
Recipients of the $1,000 scholarship are Carly Favoroso from Sussex County and Addison Hake from Kent County.
Favoroso participated in the Girls on the Run program at Lulu Ross Elementary. A graduating senior from Cape Henlopen High School, she will attend East Carolina University.
Hake participated on the Girls on the Run team at W.B. Simpson Elementary. A graduating senior from Polytech High School, she will attend Flagler College.
“We’re so grateful for the generosity of McDonald’s/The Meoli Companies in sponsoring our inaugural scholarships,” said Chitty. “They have been longtime supporters of our program and have contributed to many seasons of scholarship funding for girls to participate in GOTR in Kent and Sussex counties.”
What will become an annual scholarship goes to a high school senior in each county in Delaware who participated in at least two seasons on a GOTR Delaware team, is eligible for graduation in the academic school year and is enrolled in a postsecondary program for the upcoming fall term.
Girls on the Run is a positive youth development program for girls in third to eighth grades. The mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running.
Statewide, 90 teams, 1,400 girls and 335 volunteer coaches were involved in the eight-week program for the spring 2025 season that concluded with celebratory 5K races.
