Patrick Kain & Primrose
Arlington Heights-based nonprofit Good Neighbors Network (GNN) announced the launch of two new scholarships for students from Township High School Dist. 214’s Specialized Schools.
The Dr. Mario Perez International Newcomers Scholarship and the Patrick Kain & Primrose Vanguard Scholarship will assist graduating seniors from the International Newcomer Academy and Vanguard School who have demonstrated perseverance, leadership and a commitment to building a successful future.
“For years, these schools have been overlooked when it comes to scholarship opportunities, and we believe it’s time to change that,” said Yeulanda Degala, founder and CEO of Good Neighbors Network. “These students face unique challenges, and we want to ensure they are seen, supported, and celebrated as they take their next steps toward higher education or career training.”

Both scholarships are needs-based and are open to students who have overcome challenges and demonstrated a strong commitment to their education. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 award to help with college or trade school expenses.
Dr. Mario Perez International Newcomers Scholarship
This scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Mario Perez, an advocate for immigrant and refugee students in Dist. 214. It is awarded to a senior from the International Newcomer Academy who has demonstrated resilience and leadership while adapting to a new language, culture, and educational system.
Good Neighbors Network – Patrick Kain & Primrose Vanguard Scholarship
This scholarship honors a student with perseverance and a commitment to personal and academic growth. It celebrates Patrick Kain’s dedication to creating a “Safe Space” for students at Vanguard School and the compassionate presence of his cherished therapy dog, Primrose.
Applications for both scholarships are now open and can be accessed through Dist. 214’s in-house scholarship platform, goodneighborsnetwork.org. Recipients will be announced during the schools’ graduation celebrations later this year. Good Neighbors Network (GNN) has a long-standing relationship with both schools, providing support through initiatives such as Neighbors Care Closets, winter gear distribution and holiday assistance.
