Two students in the Construction Management program at Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s Gordon County Campus have been named the first recipients of the new Octaviano and Bertha Perez Scholarship.
Jesus Arellano and Jackson Woodard received the scholarship for the fall 2025 semester. The award was created by Octavio Perez to honor his parents, Octaviano and Bertha Perez, who he said shaped him into the person he is today.
“We are so thankful to Mr. Octavio Perez for his support of our Construction Management students,” said Dr. Heidi Popham, president of GNTC. “This scholarship will absolutely help these two students reach their educational goals.”
The scholarship specifically supports two students in the Construction Management program, one focusing on carpentry and the other on masonry.
“I have been a Realtor since 1979, and I know how important home ownership is for individuals and families worldwide,” Perez said. “The construction industry is critical to the development of any nation.”
GNTC provides workforce education to residents of Northwest Georgia, offering associate degrees, diplomas and certificates in fields including aviation, business, health, industrial and public service.
In the past year, more than 13,700 people participated in credit and noncredit programs at GNTC, with 8,836 enrolled in credit courses and 4,939 in adult education, continuing education, business and industry training and Georgia Quick Start programs.
