Go For Broke Offering Legacy Scholarships for High School/College Students – Rafu Shimpo

The Go For Broke National Education Center is offering the Go For Broke Legacy Scholarships for high school and college students to explore and analyze the legacy of the Japanese American soldiers of World War II, its impact on contemporary themes of social justice, discrimination, civil liberties, and democracy, and the challenges faced by minority groups during itime of conflict.
The deadline has been extended to Sunday, Nov. 16, at 11:59 p.m. PST.
This year, students are invited to respond to the following prompt in a 400-to-500-word essay:
“Carrying Forward the Go For Broke Spirit: How can the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the Japanese American soldiers of WWII inspire us to address today’s social challenges through community service and personal action?”
Applicants should consider how the legacy of these soldiers provides lessons that can be applied to contemporary issues such as racial justice, civic engagement, community solidarity, and perseverance in the face of adversity.

Eligibility and Submission Guidelines
Applicants must be currently enrolled in high school or college (undergraduate or graduate programs)
Essays must be original work, 400-500 words in length
Submission must include a completed application form
Deadline: Sunday, Nov. 15, at 11:59 PSt
