BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Olympic gold medalist Carly Patterson Caldwell joined Aim High Academy for their Gold Medal Night to help inspire their students and raise money for scholarships.
“It makes me feel really good that the Tulsa community and the gymnastics community supports Aim High in the way that it does. It makes our kids feel loved and it makes them encouraged,” said Jennifer Bjornberg, the founder of Aim High Academy.
She started the nonprofit 17 years ago when she felt a calling to help give access to gymnastics to children who typically can’t easily engage with the sport.
“I started volunteering in North Tulsa and did that for about 9 years and God really gave me the vision to combine my passion for youth that maybe didn’t have equal access to things with my passion for the sport of gymnastics and Aim High was born in 2007. We started at the John 3:16 center.”
In the 17 years since, the organization has expanded to tonight where Aim High is hosting Gold Medal Night, their biggest fundraiser of the year.
They’re hoping to raise $90,000, which will provide 165 scholarships for low income families.
Alongside a silent auction and a performance by some of Aim High’s gymnasts, another huge part of Gold Medal Night is the Olympic champion herself, Carly Patterson Caldwell.
“I do love talking to the little girls. We got to go to Aim High last night and talk to them all and they asked so many good questions. They’re so excited, so that always makes you feel good.”
Aim High and Caldwell both hope to inspire the next generation of gymnasts.
“I could have never imagined how my career would have gone and how it ended…becoming an Olympic champion and kind of having this influence and platform that I have now.”
Olympic gold medalist Carly Patterson Caldwell joined Aim High Academy for their Gold Medal Night to help inspire their students and raise money for scholarships.
Beyond supporting gymnasts on their athletic journey, Aim High aims to help support children on their journeys of faith.
Bjornberg stated, “We tell our kids all the time that they are special and God made a purpose and a plan for their lives. A lot of them start gymnastics at the age of two and if we can tell them at that age that you’re not a mistake, God made you and you have a purpose, that maybe by the time they’re 12 or 13 years old they’re seeking out what that plan is in their lives.”
