High school seniors residing in the Golden West Telecommunications service area can now apply for one of 45 $1,000 scholarships available to qualifying students.
Now in its 27th year, the Golden West scholarship program awards scholarships to help offset tuition for graduating seniors who will pursue post-secondary education. Golden West presents a scholarship to one recipient from each of the high schools within its exchange. An additional at-large scholarship is awarded to a student whose parents receive Golden West services but is either homeschooled or attends a high school outside the service area.
“Every scholarship is an investment in a bright future,” says Golden West General Manager and CEO Denny Law. “By investing in the education of South Dakota’s students, we can create more connections in rural communities across the state.”
To be eligible for a scholarship, the applicant must be a high school senior whose parents or legal guardians reside within a Golden West service area and subscribe to Golden West phone or internet service. The applicant must have taken the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), American College Test (ACT) or Accuplacer Vocational Entrance Exam. They must also enroll in 12 or more credits (or the equivalent of a fulltime course load) at a post-secondary institution in the fall semester following high school graduation. Committees from each school will select local scholarship winners, while a committee of Golden West employees will choose the at-large recipient.
Golden West scholarship applications are available from guidance counselors at local high schools and atlarge applications may be requested by calling 1-855-888-7777, option 3, or visiting goldenwest.com/scholarships. The application deadline is Friday, March 14, 2025.
