On April 7, Grow Southeast Alabama (GSEA) announced the scholarship recipients for the GSEA Workforce Development Scholarship Program for the 2024-2025 academic year and Goshen High School’s Akierra Cornell was among the recipients.
GSEA is a coalition for economic development across 11 counties. Each of the scholarship recipients receive a $1,000 scholarship towards a two-year trade program at a community college within the 11-county footprint. The scholarship is made possible through a partnership with Southeast Alabama Works.
The counties represented are Pike, Barbour, Bullock, Butler, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston Counties. Students from Goshen, Eufaula, Bullock County, Georgiana, Kinston, Opp, Brantley, Dale County, Geneva County, Abbeville, Dothan and Rehobeth High Schools earned scholarships.
GSEA also announced that counties within that footprint are also adding funds from local economic development authorities to further support the student scholarship and contribute to workforce development in their counties.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who applied this year and participated in the GSEA Workforce Development Scholarship Program,” a statement from GSEA read. “Your involvement and enthusiasm have made this initiative a resounding success.”
