Alex Weaver, a spring graduate of Grand Island Senior High, has been awarded the Catherine Fosket Memorial Scholarship by the Grand Island Little Theater.
This scholarship was named the Catherine Fosket Memorial Scholarship to honor a long-time member of Grand Island Little Theatre.
“Catherine gave of herself to the theatre,” GILT noted in a press release. “She loved the theater and was a volunteer in the truest sense. Rarely appearing on stage, Catherine preferred to work behind the scenes as director, stage crew, box office, props and whatever needed to be done. She believed that everyone should be exposed to the thrill and excitement of theater. This scholarship is given to individuals who have shown their commitment and dedication to the continuing advancement of the Arts. Funding for this scholarship comes from the annual GILT Golf Scramble, held every August.”
Scholarship criteria requires this scholarship to be awarded to a senior who has been involved in a Grand Island Little Theatre production at some time, either on or off stage and/or a senior who has been involved in fine arts during high school or who is planning on pursuing a career in a fine arts area.
Weaver, the son of Jason and Mindy Weaver, has been involved with fine arts for a long time, with involvement in one acts, choirs, has been in the spotlight in GISH musicals, and has helped out with youth camps, including GILT Jr. His passion for fine arts goes beyond the spotlight.
“Music and theatre can be fulfilling for anyone and everyone, providing a place of belonging to those participating,” Weaver wrote in his application.
Weaver is attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, majoring in Advertising and Public Relations. He plans to audition for the Big Red Singers and University Show Choir, as well as continue his love for fine arts in other ways.
