Dematic has announced the recipients of its 2024 STEM Scholarship Program, a partnership with Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) that supports local students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Now, in its second year, the scholarship program is part of Dematic’s support for future innovators and giving back to the Grand Rapids community.
“Investing in STEM education is essential to shaping the future of our industry and supporting innovation,” said Mike Larsson, President of Dematic. “Grand Rapids has been our home for decades, and we’re proud to give back to the community that has been integral to our success. Supporting these students as they pursue their education at GRCC is an honor and a privilege.”
To apply, GRCC students were asked to write an essay on how supply chain technology positively impacts society. A selection committee reviewed the applications, and each of this year’s winners received $2,000 to assist with their studies. The winners include:
One of the scholarship recipients, Thao Le, highlighted the importance of technology in her essay. “The reliance on innovative technologies is crucial to enhance operational efficiency, improve decision-making, and respond to consumer demands more effectively. These technologies improve business operations and contribute to a positive social impact, such as reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices.”
Dematic launched its STEM Scholarship Program in 2023 with a similar initiative at Grand Valley State University (GVSU). That effort marked the 10th anniversary of GVSU’s Mary Idema Pew Library, which features Dematic’s Automated Storage and Retrieval System.
