The Greater Jefferson County Foundation held its Annual Scholarship Appreciation Dinner Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at the Fairfield Community Center.
Graduating Senior Students receiving Foundation scholarships and their families from FHS and Pekin attended the event. The meal was catered by the Jefferson County Pork Producers.
Several scholarship donors were also present, including Susan Shafer (Mark Shafer Visual Arts Scholarship), Pat Thoma Wheeler (Jeanne Thoma Scholarship), Ben & Judy Bower (Ben & Judy Bower Scholarship), Loretta Diers (Andrew & Dorothy Crile Scholarship), Dale & Mary Jo Kraus (Kraus Family Scholarship), and Jim & Joan Salts (Grace Roberts Nursing Scholarship).
Also in attendance were past FHS graduates: Allan David Creer, Briana Steele, Makenzie Kraemer and Macy Rayburn. These four hosted a Q&A period after the meal answering questions from students and parents about college freshman life, updating study habits, dorm life, free time, and the advantages of making new friends and experiences!
In addition, three teachers employed by FCSD, and receiving the Harold & Kay Turner Teacher Scholarships also enjoyed the evening. Larisa Tyler, Kristen McCready and Rebecca Thompson. This scholarship is to assist educators achieve their Masters.
The Greater Jefferson County Foundation administers over 50 scholarships for FHS and Pekin students. The first scholarship was created in 1988 with $20,000 and the scholarship fund today is over $1 million. The criteria include financial need, Math, Science, Education, Agriculture, Business, Chemical Engineering, Computer Technology and many more.
The Foundation plans to host scholarship application assistance in the Fall prior to the application period beginning Dec. 1. Parents and students are invited to contact the office for one-on-one support completing scholarship applications and answering questions about scholarship in general.
