Greek Fest weekend kicks off, raises scholarship funds for students going to college – WITN

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – An annual festival celebrating Greek life is back in Pitt County this week, kicking off its weekend of events with a Stroll Down Memory Lane event at E. B. Aycock Middle School.
The event, organized by the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Pitt County, featured performances from members who stepped and strolled to win a prize.
Proceeds from the event go towards scholarship funds for students planning to attend or who are enrolled at ECU, or even towards back to school drives.
“I am feeling excited based on the crowd that’s coming out here,” Allan Sessoms, one organizer said. “Everybody’s energetic, everybody’s actually buying raffle tickets and stuff so that way we can get scholarships for those that’s trying to go to ECU.”
Some attendees say this event brings back memories.
“Takes me back to my college days,” Shaibaze More an attendee said. “It’s great to see cause right now you got the younger crew mixed with the older crew and they’re doing things together so it’s good.”
More says even with the great energy, he’s grateful donations from the event will go to a good cause.
For tonight’s stroll off, the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. won the competition.
The community can even take advantage of a wellness fair from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 28 at H. Boyd Lee Park, offering health screenings, education and community booths.
Visitors can also check out the Sunday’s Best: Praise, Power & the Glow Up from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at E. B. Aycock Middle School, featuring gospel, talent, fashion & community awards.
